Lux Row 12 Year Double Barrel Bourbon Review

Mar 8, 2021

Glencairn Whiskey Glass

Lux Row 12 Year Double Barrel Bourbon was a limited release bourbon meant to celebrate the grand opening of Lux Row Distillers in Bardstown, KY. Lux Row explains the double-barrel process “the bourbon was aged in two different barrels — for 12 years each.” The Lux Row team took two 12-year-old bourbons and blended them together to create a truly unique release that celebrates craftsmanship and excellence in whiskey making.

Lux Row 12 Year Double Barrel Bourbon is a cask strength bourbon whiskey at 118.4 proof (a subtle nod to the opening date of the distillery which was April 2018) and made with simple but high-quality ingredients like all good whiskey should be. 6,000 bottles were released at the time of the opening, and the bourbon was only sold at the gift shop.

Nose – 94 out of 100 Points

Lux Row 12 Year Double Barrel Bourbon starts off right with stewed cherries, baking spice, buttressed by toasted oak and root beer.

Taste – 95 out of 100 Points

The palate has a soda sweetness with root beer and Cheerwine. White pepper blooms on the mid-palate along with charred baking spice. This 12YO bourbon offers fabulous depth on the palate.

Finish – 93 out of 100 Points

The finish is long with a wonderful red peppercorn spice that plays nicely with stewed cherries and rye spice. It’s completely balanced with fireworks of flavor.

Complexity – 97 out of 100 Points

The complexity of this Double Barrel Bourbon is crazy. It’s got great depth. It’s jam-packed with flavors. And it’s balanced.

Value – 90 out of 100 Points

Lux Row 12 Year Double Barrel Bourbon was selling for $150 at the Lux Row Distillery gift shop. $150 is basically the new entry point for limited releases. The question then becomes do the flavors stand up to the higher price. In this case, Lux Row 12 Year Double Barrel Bourbon is worth the once-in-a-lifetime bottle and its bold flavors.

Verdict – Gold 93.8 out of 100 Points
