Who makes Good Times Bourbon? Good Times Bourbon is distilled by MGP but finished and bottled by Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. in Frankfurt, KY to create unique finished whiskeys and single barrel experiences. They have the widest variety of finishes I’ve come across. My review will cover the Blackberry Brandy and Tawny Port Finished Bourbon, but they also offer

  • Chocolate Finished Bourbon
  • Apple Brandy Finished Rye
  • Tawny Port Finished Rye
  • Honey Finished Bourbon
  • Toasted Honey Finished Bourbon
  • Caribbean Rum Finished Rye
  • Honey Finished Rye
  • Peach Brandy Finished Rye

to name just a few — along with unfinished cask strength and premium aged whiskeys. Check out Good Times’ Instagram to keep up to date with what they’re offering and inquire about single barrels.

Good Times Bourbon Tawny Port Finished Review

Good Times Tawny Port Finished Bourbon_6152021

Bonus points for offering a finished bourbon cask strength and non-chill filtered. This Tawny Port Finished Bourbon came out of the barrel at 116 proof (58% ABV). This was barrel #1 and bottle #207.

Nose – 94 out of 100 Points

The nose hits one of my favorite flavor profile square in the nose. It’s deep, rich, luxurious dark fruit along with barrel char. I’m also picking up caramel and baking spice. It reminds me of the top of the pie that’s caramelized on the side of the cast iron skillet.

Taste – 95 out of 100 Points

Somehow the palate adds more depth and complexity to this old world fruit bomb. The barrel char stands out even more as the unifying flavor between the dark fruit, red peppercorn that tingles my mid-palate, and baking spices.

Finish – 95 out of 100 Points

Good Times, this Tawny Port is in the danger zone. It does not drink like 116 proof. All the flavors carry through the finish and linger for a deceptively long time and without an overwhelming burn. It’s creamy fruit, baking spice, barrel char, and red peppercorn.

Complexity – 94 out of 100 Points

The flavor profile wasn’t wide, but this Tawny Port Finished Bourbon had depth for days. The balance between the barrel char and the dark fruit notes plus the heat from the proof made this a delight to drink.

Value – 92 out of 100 Points

Good Times Bourbon releases are running around $100 a bottle from what I can tell. You’re getting a unique experience and (not to beat a dead horse) a cask strength, non-chill filtered, and finished bourbon. MGP bourbon on its own are a good value but adding depth and complexity to them by finishing them in a variety of casks only adds more value. I’m in on these.

It stands up against other port-finished bourbons like Angel’s Envy and Thomas S. Moore.

Verdict – Gold 94 out of 100 Points

Good Times Bourbon Blackberry Brandy Finished Review

Good Times Blackberry Brandy Finished Bourbon Review

This Blackberry Brandy Finished Bourbon came out of the barrel at 118 proof (59% ABV). This was barrel #6 and bottle #215.

Nose – 89 out of 100 Points

The aromas hint at the higher proof. The blackberries come through but without much sweetness. Lots of spicy oak. I’m also picking up a sweet oatmeal aroma.

Taste – 88 out of 100 Points

The palate is creamy and spicy. The back of the palate is oaky with a subtle caramel sweetness.

Finish – 90 out of 100 Points

The finish is long, oaky, creamy, and sweet. Good balances of flavors. Best part of the drinking experience.

Complexity – 89 out of 100 Points

I wanted more balance to add depth and to round out some of the flavors.

Value – 90 out of 100 Points

See what I said above for the Good Times Tawny Port Finished Bourbon value — same applies.

Verdict – Silver 89.2 out of 100 Points
