Country Smooth was founded by Lori Carcich, the original female Founder and CEO of an American Whiskey Co. She wanted to create a whiskey brand that imaged American ideals and her love of country music. She was a wine drinker first and was looking for a smooth yet flavor whiskey like her favorite wines. Kudos to Lori. Creating your own whiskey brand is bold…and well reflects the American Dream.

I’ll let Lori tell her story further: “I was not a traditional bourbon and whiskey drinker. My friends loved drinking whiskey and making classic whiskey cocktails. However, I had a hard time finding a whiskey that could be savored the way I enjoyed a fine glass of wine. The taste had to be smooth, but not weak or watered down. I preferred a nice glass of chardonnay or pinot, but I wanted to be able to enjoy bourbon and whiskey on a regular basis at various music and sporting events, out or at home.”

She goes on, “It was important to me to have the entire Country Smooth experience reflect our slogan, ‘smooth taste, modern style, country strong,’ with the entire package being made in the U.S.A. The goal was to create the highest quality experience for all of the senses, from the smell and taste of the whiskey to the look and feel of the bottle.”

Louisiana is where Country Smooth first hit the shelves and is distributed by International Wine & Spirits, Inc. Lori loves New Orleans so much in 2019 she actually “chose New Orleans to host Country Smooth’s inaugural Country Smooth Fest in October. We are planning a two-day, two-stage country music festival which will feature national and regional country music bands, in addition to go-carting, Louisiana cuisine, fine beer, wine and, of course, Country Smooth Whiskey.”

Is Country Smooth a smooth drinking whiskey? The short answer: yes. The long answer: read my full review below. You might also be asking, “Where is Country Smooth whiskey made?” Country Smooth is distilled in Indiana (presumably MGP) and bottled in Nashville, TN.

Let’s break it down: Country Smooth is a 2YO plus MGP whiskey. But does it stand out in that crowded category?

Country Smooth is mission accomplished. It is a smooth drinking whiskey with good mouthfeel. I can imagine enjoying this on the lake on a hot summer day.

Nose – 85 out of 100 Points

The color is honey-like. The nose’s primary flavors are pleasant roasted cereal, honey, and citrus. That’s supported by subtle butterscotch, fresh oak, and tree sap.

Taste – 84 out of 100 Points

The palate offers subtle caramel on the front moving to toasted oak and brown sugar. On the back of the palate, baking spice emerges and blooms.

Finish – 84 out of 100 Points

The baking spice that opens in the back of the palate sticks with you through the finish with just a pop of oak. It’s an easy-drinking whiskey with hints of boldness.

Complexity – 84 out of 100 Points

The 2YO plus MGP whiskey category is jam-packed. Country Smooth is a good whiskey but could improve its solid flavor profile, complexity, and depth with more time in the barrel. If more time in the barrel isn’t in the card, the price still makes this an attractive sipper.

Value – 88 out of 100 Points

What sets Country Smooth apart is the price and marketing. It’s $25 and appeals to the values of “country music and the American lifestyle.” They were attempting to create a whiskey that is “smooth, but not weak or watered down.” Country Smooth is mission accomplished. It is a smooth drinking whiskey that’s not thin. I can imagine enjoying this on the lake on a hot summer day.

Verdict – Bronze 85 out of 100 Points
