This Barrell Rye guide will include a full review of Barrell Rye 003. I will also include video reviews from other respected rye whiskey enthusiasts for Barrell Rye Batches 001 and 002. Plus details like MSRP, release date, and more for every batch.

Barrell Craft Spirits is headquartered in Louisville, KY. They source their rye whiskey from around the world (e.g., America, Canada, and Poland for starters) and blend it at barrel strength in small batches for a bold rye whiskey with big flavors. I always appreciate the transparency with where their rye whiskey comes from.

According to Barrell Craft Spirits:

Rye Batch 003 is a blend of rye whiskeys from Indiana, Poland, Tennessee and Canada, all with distinct personalities and varying ages. We started with Tennessee Rye barrels with caramel and dried fruit notes and added the Polish Rye for its nuttiness and mouthfeel. We then carefully layered in 13-year Canadian Rye to bring out earthy notes of grass, spearmint and apple. The Indiana Rye was the finishing touch to highlight the candied fruit and spiciness you expect from a rye.

Barrell Rye Batch 003 in the Glass

Oily with long, thick legs. The color of this rye whiskey blend is honeycomb.

Nose Dive – 93 out of 100 Points

This rye blend is floral and rye forward. This is a high-end amuse-bouche of flavors like rye bread toast with cinnamon butter and flower petals. In my rye whiskey experience, the Canadian rye is the nose standout. For good measure, I get a hint of bumble gum.

Taste – 95 out of 100 Points

The front of the palate is all rye bread and cinnamon with just subtle floral notes. Near mid-palate, I picked up fresh rock fruit and more of that bubble gum. This rye blend is a unique and enjoyable drinking experience.

Finish – 92 out of 100 Points

It’s a medium finish with more of the rye bread and spice with the floral notes and the rock fruit round it out.

Verdict – Gold 94 out of 100 Points

This was a consistent drinking experience from nose to finish which I prefer. And it’s a lovely rye with complexity and intrigue in every sip. I’d highly recommend it.

According to Barrell Craft Spirits:

Rye Batch 002 is our second release that expands on our interpretation of a traditional rye whiskey, combining two very diverse ryes. We selected barrels of a 100% malted rye distilled and aged in Poland for 5 years in new charred #3 oak barrels from World Cooperage. We then blended it with an Indiana high malted barley rye that was aged in Indiana and Kentucky for over 5 years. The Polish Rye is dry, with a rich nutty flavor, and pairs beautifully with the lush Indiana Rye, resulting in a sweet and savory balance of malted chocolate and roasted cashews.

According to Barrell Craft Spirits:

We set out to do something different and unconventional with Barrell Rye Batch 001. We combined sweeter malted barley rye barrels with spicier high-rye barrels to create a unique flavor experience. Batch 001 is a rye whiskey that touches on everything we love. It evolves in the glass, punches hard with its proof, and finishes long and lean. Like all our whiskeys, it’s cask strength and never colored, flavored, or diluted.
